Provision of Basic Health Services for the Kuchi Population through a Mobile Health Team in
Maidan Wardak Province
A mobile health team bringing basic health services to Kuchi communities in Maidan Wardak through
the end of 2027, in partnership with Médecins du Monde.
About this project
The Kuchi are Afghanistan’s nomadic and semi-nomadic pastoralist communities. Their seasonal migration
and remote settlement patterns place them far from fixed health facilities, and they are consistently among
the most underserved populations in national health surveys. OPHCD’s mobile health teams travel to Kuchi
settlements on a planned schedule, bringing a full primary-care package — doctor, midwife, nurse,
vaccinator and nutrition counsellor — directly to the community.
Where we work
The project covers 3 districts across Wardak: Jaghori, Sayed Abad, Nirkh.
What we do
- Scheduled mobile clinic visits to Kuchi settlements along migration routes
- Outpatient consultations, essential medicines and referral
- Antenatal, postnatal and safe-delivery services by female midwives
- Routine immunisation of children and women of child-bearing age
- Nutrition screening of children under five and pregnant and lactating women
- Health education on maternal health, hygiene and disease prevention
