Integrated primary health care and nutrition services through clinics, plus routine immunisation strengthened through community health workers, in five high-risk polio districts of Kandahar and Helmand
About this project
Primary health care (PHC) is the foundation of OPHCD’s work. This project delivers a package of essential curative and preventive services — outpatient consultations, maternal and child health, antenatal and postnatal care, immunisation, nutrition, and health education — to communities that would otherwise have no access to a functioning clinic
Where we work
The project covers 5 districts across Kandahar, Helmand: Dand, Zhari, Kandahar, Lashkargah, Nahr-e-Saraj.
What we do
- Outpatient consultations and treatment of common illnesses
- Antenatal, delivery and postnatal care through midwives
- Routine immunisation and growth monitoring for children
- Screening and treatment of acute malnutrition
- Health and hygiene education sessions in the community
- Referral of complicated cases to district and provincial hospitals
